MEET DEREK
Derek Schwartz is a husband, father, police officer, and proud Nebraska farm kid who has built his life around hard work, service, and integrity.
Born and raised in Stanton, Nebraska, Derek learned early that success isn’t handed to you—it’s earned through grit and perseverance. A 2005 Stanton High School graduate and longtime wrestler, Derek carried those lessons of discipline and humility with him to Buena Vista University and the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.

By the age of 26, Derek had become one of the youngest live-event franchise owners in the country. Through determination and a tireless work ethic, he grew annual sales by 400% before selling the business to pursue new challenges. That entrepreneurial spirit led him to build and operate his own trucking company while simultaneously beginning his service in law enforcement—a testament to his drive and dedication to both his family and community.
Since joining the police department in 2020, Derek has made community service the center of his mission. In 2022, he was awarded the Life Saving Award for reviving a woman who had overdosed on fentanyl. He has since become a DARE instructor, police academy instructor, Field Training Officer, and member of the Community Services Bureau—earning recognition not through rank or title, but through his commitment to compassion and professionalism. Derek’s record speaks for itself: zero uses of force, zero disciplinary actions, and countless lives impacted for the better.
Derek’s leadership extends beyond the badge. He serves as an elected member and treasurer of his local Fraternal Order of Police Executive Board, volunteers with the Blue Santa “Shop with a Cop” program, coaches at La Vista Kids Camp, and was elected president of his neighborhood homeowners association—where he continues to serve as an unpaid volunteer.
A lifelong learner, Derek has completed the Leadership Development Program, graduated from the International Association of Chiefs of Police “First Line Leadership” course, and is a 2025 graduate of Leadership Sarpy.
Through every chapter of his life—farm fields, small business ownership, trucking routes, and patrol cars—Derek Schwartz has lived the values that make Nebraska strong: faith, family, service, and personal responsibility.
Now, he’s ready to bring those same values to the Nebraska Legislature—standing up for working families, supporting law enforcement, and ensuring the next generation of Nebraskans can thrive in a state that rewards hard work and honors service.

Biological boys shouldn’t compete against girls. Derek will fight to keep girls’ sports fair, competitive, and rooted in common sense.

From business ownership to trucking to law enforcement, Derek’s done the work. He’ll fight for policies that grow jobs, support small business, and reward hard work.
